He took us on a route that included some fantastic spells of downhill road riding, through some beautiful and fun forest trails, and up some very rewarding hill climbs... all against constantly stunning scenery. I was looking for a couple full day bike adventures while traveling to Kenya along with my wife for her work trip. I'm an avid mountain biker in Colorado, so... read more I had big rides in mind, and I reached out to Baiskeli Adventures to help me make it happen. Since we we'd be staying at a lodge on Lake Naivasha, Rakesh wrote me to suggest a ride through Hell's Gate National Park and beyond ... way beyond. He sent me a link to the proposed route: about 45 miles and 4,500 feet of elevation gain. That was exactly the kind of thing I had in mind, so I knew I made the right choice reaching out to Baiskeli Adventures.
I'd never been to Kenya before and really wasn't sure what Naivasha was going to be like, so I was glad that Rakesh said it was no trouble to pick me up from the lodge where I was staying. He let me know that Ben would be my guide, and Ben and I made arrangements for the first day's ride over Whatsapp. He picked me up at 8:30 a.m. just as we'd agreed, and we made our way over to the entrance to Hell's Gate. We were met there with two bikes and helmets (which I later found out were rented from the highly recommended Fisherman's Camp). I made a couple quick adjustments for fit, but everything appeared to be in working order. After paying the entrance fee, Ben and I were off. There's so much I could say about this ride, but it wouldn't do it any justice. I'll just say that if you like big gravel rides, you'll love this one.
After a good night's rest, Ben picked me up the next morning and we rode all the way around Lake Naivasha, about 47 miles this time, but much flatter, and maybe a 50/50 mix of paved and unpaved roads. This was a nice change of pace and scenery from the day before, and I was really glad to have the opportunity to see so much of the area by bike.
Ben was a great guide and I was glad to have his company on these rides. If I ever have the opportunity to visit Kenya again, I'll definitely choose Baiskeli Adventures.
Great day out on the bikes. A good workout and lovely scenery. Nice guide with a good pace.Bikes were in good condition with front suspension.

Rakesh designed an 8-day route for us, from Nairobi to the Indian Ocean, practically all on dirt roads and single tracks, through a different nature every day, and even different several times in a single day. Enchanting landscapes that often reminded us of other places in Africa that we had discovered together 12 years before. To Rakesh we can only say thank you, a journey beyond our most demanding expectations. We were accompanied by the driver and excellent cook Ken, and Rakesh himself for half a day, and a pleasant evening. Baiskeli Adentures, we met, and we will meet again, I'm sure.
